Innopharma Education

LET'S BEGIN WITH SOME EXCITING UPDATES FROM THE EDUCATION TEAM

SEPT/OCT 2021 COURSE RECRUITMENT

Our Springboard, HCI and private recruiting has been in full swing in Q3 and we have seen a great uptake in many of our courses. Brilliant to see such a healthy class list for our brand new Certificates in Process Digitisation. These Certs are Innopharma's first accredited courses independent of another college and it was fantastic to get official QQI accreditation for these courses this quarter!

Well done to all of the programme leads and lead owners on your work over the last few months!

ENGINEERS IRELAND NEWSLETTER

As part of our Sept/Oct promotions we advertised some of our courses on Engineers Irelands website and in their newsletter which is sent to their 24,000 members with a high percentage of these being within the biopharma, chemistry, tech and mechanical engineering space. WEBINARS

We continued with our weekly webinars for Sept/Oct recruitment. There was a big focus on our new Certificate courses as these were not only new to us and our potential students but also new to the industry in general! Thanks to Ann, Finbarr and Kevin and anyone who helped with support on these along the way. We have seen a great return on these webinars over the last number of months and are looking forward to continuing these over our coming recruitment cycles. We are always looking for volunteers to host or help with these webinars to mix things up and any suggestions in terms of content, interesting additions etc. are welcome!

TEACHING AND LEARNING UPDATE

TRANSITION TO INNOSKILLS & ZOOM

Thank you to everyone who has participated in our move to Innoskills and Zoom as our integrated V.L.E. Classes have been running on this new system for a few weeks now, with the last to start soon. There have been very few major problems reported, and that’s down to the fantastic work you’ve all been putting in to learn and adapt to this new environment!

The new V.L.E. is a future-ready environment for our programmes. Innoskills gives us an easily scalable environment with enhanced features and new functions, including an individually configured calendar, a customized and accessible interface, audio/video feedback tools, and more. All of our TUD programmes and our own Innopharma programmes are housed here.

GREAT NEWS FROM THE TECHNOLOGY TEAM

LIGHTHOUSE - DIGITAL MATURITY ASSESSMENT

Over the summer we have been working closely with the Lighthouse Partnership in Disruptive Technology for small molecule manufacturing, a cluster of Irish Manufacturers, Service Providers and Government agencies in performing a Digital Maturity and Sustainability Assessment which the Innopharma Team and designed based on current best practise. It is intended that the assessments will benchmark current state, identify best practise exemplars and areas of opportunity that will enable the development of a data rich strategy that considers the unique technological and organisational direction, roadmap and destination.

Our partnership with the cluster has afforded us an excellent opportunity to network with site leadership teams of the leading pharma manufacturing teams in Ireland, build our own expertise in business assessments and  exercise an informed view of the future skills and technology needs of manufacturing in Ireland.

This To date we have completed assessments of 9 participants which is providing a wealth of information that is feeding into strategic and policy development for the cluster. Next steps include the development of finalised reports and preparation for cluster workshop in October.

INTRODUCING THE EyePASS

The Eyecon2 our flagship technology, used to measure the particle size and shape of powders and bulk solids. The Eyecon2 is a direct imaging, non product contact,  particle analyser that reports data of your bulk powder processes in real time.

More info here for those of you that are new!

One of the primary steps performed by our image analysis software EyePASS is particle segmentation i.e., the detection and delineation of particles from the images sent by the Eyecon2. All measurements reported by the software are based on the results of the particle segmentation step. To date EyePASS 2.0 uses traditional image-processing techniques to achieve the segmentation.

The EyePASS Artificial intelligence (AI) project is using cutting edge machine learning (ML) techniques to drastically improve the ability to segment particles, enhanced segmentation means a wider range or material types can be detected with superior accuracy in measurement results.

The machine learning approach utilises convolutional neural networks (CNN), It is a supervised machine learning method where learned features with input data are manually labelled for the task of identifying particles. To break that down a little more, EyePASS AI images of materials are labeled manually by in-house experts, then a CNN iterates and improve its feature extraction of the images. The features are not trained but are instead learned by the network. More and more datasets are been prepared as part of the project to challenge and improve the model.

The screenshot shows some recent results from the ongoing work.

Nikita

Ciara Mellotte

I am a science graduate with a BSc in Clinical Technology from LIT. I recently completed a H.Dip in Biopharmaceutical and Medical Device Manufacturing from Innopharma/TUD. I have worked part-time in hospitality and retail roles throughout my third-level education. I am currently working in Amgen in their Equipment Qualification team. I spend my leisure time reading books and partaking in activities to keep fit. I particularly enjoy spending time outdoors, I hope to climb Carrauntoohil this year.

Tadhg Donnellon

I started off my third level education at the University of Limerick studying the general engineering course. Growing up I would have always been interested in technology and equipment. I was really excited by the computer programming modules which led me to major in computer and electronic engineering for the remainder of my time at the University of Limerick.
I completed my university internship with Goodman Medical in Galway working in the automation department. This is where I got my first taste for the life sciences industry which I really enjoyed!
I worked as a production technician in Vistakon in Limerick throughout my time as a student as well as various other roles in the hospitality and retail sector. When I finished my degree I knew I wanted to make the transition to the life sciences industry.
To do so, I enrolled for the pharmaceutical business operations course with Innopharma and Griffith College. This led me to the work simulation validation program that Innopharma were running which i since completed. The course was fantastic giving a great insight into working as a validation engineer. I felt I was ready to begin my career working in the field of validation.
In July, I began working as a quality assurance consultant as a contractor for Regeneron. None of this would have been possible without Innopharma and I am so grateful for the opportunities they have given me.
I head back to the coast surfing whenever I can and I’m a big follower of pretty much all sports, GAA and football in particular.

Nikita Bhusa

Nikita has a Masters in Pharmaceutical Business and Technology through Innopharma Labs, Griffith College Dublin and a BA in Pharmacy from Mumbai University India.
Nikita completed a 4-month extensive training Quality Control Analyst program with Innopharma Technical Services and took on the QC Analysts Program Coordinator role to support the program.
Nikita has previously worked as a Pharmacy Intern in her native home prior to coming to Ireland to complete her Masters.
Nikita has joined the QC team in Viatris as an QC Analyst.

INNOPHARMA
A WARM WELCOME TO OUR NEWBIES

Jennifer Campbell

Following the completion of my BSc in human nutrition in UCD, I began working in the Irish food industry within various technical and quality assurance roles. Most recently I held the position of Assistant Technical Manager for Joseph Brennan Bakeries for three years. Although my access to copious amounts of fresh bread has come to an end, I was thrilled to join the Innopharma Education team in August 2021 as Programme Lead for the MSc in Food Business Management and Technology.

I come to the role having been a student of Innopharma myself back in 2019. Despite having finished my MSc in Food Business Management with Innopharma in August 2020, I remained involved with the induction process and thesis supervision since. When the opportunity arose to become a permanent fixture in Innopharma I was delighted and jumped at the opportunity.

Outside of work I enjoy travelling, walking, fitness bootcamp (enjoy may be a tad strong), and the occasional true-crime documentary.

It has been fantastic getting the opportunity to meet many of you in person already despite these challenging times, and I very much appreciate the warm welcome I have received from the entire team.
