Innopharma Education is delighted to announce the launch of the second issue of Innopharma Insights, the college’s in-house research journal. Present at the launch were Orla Callan, Managing Director of Innopharma Education and Luke Kiernan, Managing Director of Innopharma Technical Services, along with specially invited guest Sinead Keogh, Director of BioPharmaChem Ireland.

Innopharma Insights is Innopharma Education’s in-house journal, first published in January 2025, packed with cutting-edge research from learners and staff in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food science, and digital transformation. The idea took off after an inspiring conference in early 2024 attended by the College Librarian, Colm O’Connor. Student submissions form the heart of the journal, transforming their dissertations, capstones, and projects into published articles that highlight real-world applications and fresh ideas.

Commenting on the significance of the research journal, Orla Callan said “Innopharma Insights was born of a desire to showcase the exciting research happening  here at Innopharma Education, giving students a real platform to share their groundbreaking work with the world.”

Journal Launch

The journal came together through teamwork across Innopharma Education, kicking off with Volumes 1 and 2 in January 2025 and 2026. The editorial team—Editor-in-Chief Colm O’Connor, plus Associate Editors Áine Behan, Jennifer Campbell, Jennifer Manning, Michelle Ryan, and Victoria Buckley— helped contributors, especially students, shape their work into polished ready to publish pieces with hands-on feedback, simple templates, one-on-one mentoring, and a focus on making the publishing journey straightforward and encouraging—no prior experience needed.

Core Mission

Innopharma Insights shines a light on exciting research across areas like Digital Transformation, Pharmaceutical Business and Technology, Medical Device Technology, Food Business and Technology, and Sustainability. Student work takes centre stage, featuring articles pulled from MSc dissertations on topics like wearables in pharmacovigilance, vaccine hesitancy, snail meat as alternative protein, and George Hove’s take on compliance in diabetes digital health—plus food innovation showcases and capstones projects. Interviews like the one with President Orla Callan on “The Innopharma Way” and Finbarr Sheehy Director of Post Graduate Programmes and Research, on critical thinking along with faculty opinion pieces, round it out nicely, sparking idea-sharing and connections all around.

Reasons for Creation

For many mature and part-time learners, research and publishing can feel out of reach, so we set out to demystify the whole process—making it welcoming and achievable through simple formats like opinion pieces, project summaries, and guided article development. It puts student voices front and centre from our courses, helping them build confidence, gain scholarly experience, and see their ideas spark industry conversations. Free print and digital editions (The journal are published on our institutional repository and so is accessible to all) get our perspectives noticed in key debates in areas such as digitalisation and sustainability. In the end, it builds vibrant teamwork across students, staff, alumni, and industry experts, with ongoing calls for submissions keeping the momentum alive.
