Course Overview

This part-time Level 8 Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Process Digitalisation is a 60 ECTS degree programme designed for learners who want to develop the knowledge and skills needed to improve processes in modern organisations. As industries increasingly adopt automation, digital systems, data-driven decision-making and more sustainable ways of working, there is strong demand for graduates who can support and lead digital change.

This programme combines key areas such as advanced manufacturing, data management, AI-driven automation, digital process optimisation, quality, sustainability, ethics and leadership. Learners will explore how digital tools and technologies can be applied to enhance efficiency, quality, compliance and performance across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, life sciences, medtech, engineering and food.

Delivered on a flexible part-time blended basis, the programme is designed to support career development while building capabilities for future-focused roles in digital operations and process improvement.

This programme is designed for learners who want to develop the skills to support and lead digital process improvement in modern industry. It is particularly suited to those with backgrounds in science, engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality or technology who wish to progress into roles linked to automation, data, process optimisation and digital transformation.

It is also suitable for professionals already working in sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, medtech, food, engineering, construction and advanced manufacturing who want to build future-focused capabilities in digitalisation, sustainability, leadership and ethical decision-making.
Graduates of this programme will be equipped to contribute to smarter, more efficient and more sustainable ways of working across a wide range of organisations.

Developed and taught by experienced academics and industry lecturers, this part-time, blended programme is delivered over 3 semesters. Lectures typically take place online on 2 evenings per week, with 1–2 Saturdays per month delivered online or in class to support practical and applied learning.

This part-time, blended programme is delivered over 3 semesters. Lectures typically take place online on 2 evenings per week, with 1–2 Saturdays per month delivered online or in class to support practical and applied learning.

This course will cover the following modules.

Module 1: The Future of Manufacturing and Supply Chain

Explore sustainable practices, evaluate supply chain impacts, and apply climate intelligence for risk monitoring.

Module 2: Progressing towards a sustainable industry 

Discover sustainability concepts, including circular economy, supply chains, and digitalization, for practical application in professional careers.

Module 3: Operational Excellence in a Digital Environment 

Explore traditional and updated operational excellence models in the context of digital transformation.

Module 4: Validation and the Concepts of Quality Assurance

Understand validation processes, quality management, regulatory requirements, and the role of digitalization in improving industry standards.

Module 5: The Management of Data

Learn about database management systems, relational and NoSQL data models, data manipulation, distribution, ethics, and EU legislation.

Module 6:Data-Driven Project Management

Learn data-driven project management, agile methodologies, and data visualization for effective communication and project planning.

Module 7: Industrial automation and process control 

Gain skills in automation, digitalization, and process control, covering architecture, measurement, analysis, and control methods.

Module 8: The Analysis of Data 

Introduction to data analysis, tools, and statistical techniques for effective decision-making in the era of big data.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a QQI Level 6 Certificate (120 credits) in Science, Engineering, Quality or related discipline.
