Course Overview
The Certificate in Science in Pharmaceutical Quality Systems Validation is a postgraduate qualification designed for ambitious professionals seeking to excel in validation in the areas of manufacturing, process, cleaning, packaging and labelling. It also designed for those seeking to enhance their skills in the areas of analytical methods and computer systems validation.
Developed in close consultation with industry leaders, this programme responds to the growing demand for skilled professionals in Ireland’s world-class pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries.
Students will gain exposure to:
- Industry-Relevant Skills: Develop essential validation skills in manufacturing, cleaning, packaging, labelling, computer systems and analytical methods.
- Comprehensive Curriculum: Engage with a curriculum that covers regulatory compliance, quality systems, and technological innovations in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including the use and impact of Artificial Intelligence on validation.
- Practical Experience: Gain hands-on experience through case studies, simulations, and potential site visits or industry collaborations, enhancing your problem-solving skills.
- Global Perspective: Understand global regulatory frameworks and standards, preparing you for roles in multinational companies and navigating diverse regulatory environments.
- Leadership Development: Develop leadership skills necessary to drive innovation and quality in the pharmaceutical industry, leveraging strategic initiatives and technological advancements to lead teams effectively.
Developed and taught by experienced academics and industry lecturers, this course is delivered through blended learning, 2 evenings per week online and 2 Saturdays per month with a mix of online and in-person.
Accreditation: QQI Level 9 Certificate in Science in Pharmaceutical Quality Systems Validation (Minor Award – 25 ECTS).

Course Outline
The Certificate in Pharmaceutical Quality Systems Validation is offered as a part-time running over two semesters (programme,
6 months). The programme uses a blended learning approach, combining online modules with on-campus sessions, allowing for flexible scheduling to accommodate different needs.
Part time learners attend classes two evenings per week (6.30pm – 9.30pm) and two Saturdays per month. Evening classes are delivered online and are also broadcast live and recorded.
This course will cover the following modules.
Module 1: Process Validation for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & Cleaning
Module 2: Analytical Method Validation
Module 3: Computer System Validation and Assurance
Module 4: Pharmaceutical Packaging and Labelling

Upon completing the Certificate in Pharmaceutical Quality Systems Validation, graduates will
be able to :
- Apply Regulatory Knowledge: Understand and apply global regulatory frameworks and standards
in pharmaceutical manufacturing. - Implement Quality Systems: Design, implement, and manage quality systems that ensure
compliance with regulatory requirements. - Validate Processes: Conduct validation activities for pharmaceutical processes and systems,
ensuring they meet quality and regulatory standards. - Innovate with Technology: Apply advanced technologies and innovations in pharmaceutical
manufacturing to improve efficiency and quality. - Analyse and Solve Problems: Analyse complex problems in pharmaceutical quality and validation,
developing effective solutions. - Communicate Effectively: Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Promote Sustainability: Integrate sustainability principles into pharmaceutical operations to
minimise environmental impact.
Entry Requirements
Level 8 primary degree with a 2.2 award or higher in a cognate discipline in science, quality, manufacturing, engineering, data analytics, project management, medicine or related discipline. Recognition of Prior Learning can also be considered to gain access.
