Course Outline
This part-time programme is delivered 1-2 evenings per week and 1-2 Saturdays per month online. It is a QQI Level 9 programme (30 Credits) and registration and induction will begin in December 2020.
Module 1: Medical Device Technology
ECTS Credits: 10
This module explores the multitude of medical device types, technologies, platforms and classifications in existence today. The module outlines the physiology and anatomy of the main body systems and provides an insight into the role of various technologies in the diagnosis and management of patients. The module also describes the medical device design and life-cycle process, with a specific focus on medical device manufacturing, drug handling, assembly, sterilisation, packaging, labelling, verification, validation and testing of medical devices.
Module 2: Medical Device Quality Systems and Regulation

This module explores the medical device regulatory environment and examines the core principles, concepts and rules governing medical device regulation with reference to the statutory frameworks under which such decisions are made.
Module 3: Medical Measurement and Analysis
ECTS Credits: 10
This module researches the range and capabilities of medical device measurement devices currently available. It will outline the current techniques for human physiological, anatomical, biological and electrochemical measurement and analysis as well as discuss the challenges of data storage, data security and ethics relating to medical device data.
