Course overview

This modular course is designed for those who would like to develop the specialised skills necessary to be successful in the biopharmaceutical, medtech & life sciences sectors. This course funded under the Government’s July Jobs Stimulus Initiative. This course is free or subsidised (90%) depending on your employment status and other conditions.

This part-time programme is delivered 1-2 evenings per week and 1-2 Saturdays per month online. It is a QQI Level 7 programme (30 Credits) and delivered in collaboration with Griffith College Dublin. 

Specifically, participants will gain expertise in regulatory affairs, validation, operational excellence, operations management, planning, control and organisational change.

The course concentrates on key areas including manufacturing, science, regulation, quality, technical writing, lean operations and team leadership skills. It provides an opportunity to gain relevant and up-to-date industry knowledge in a convenient and practical timeframe.

This modular course provides an opportunity for individuals who wish to develop or further enhance their knowledge and expertise in key subject areas. Developed with extensive input from the life science sector, it offers a unique blend of modules, providing learners with an opportunity to specialize and develop capability in a practical and convenient timeframe.

Applicants are generally from engineering, science, quality and compliance backgrounds and are seeking to keep up to date with relevant industry trends.

Course Outline

This part-time programme is delivered 1-2 evenings per week and 1-2 Saturdays per month online. It is a QQI Level 7 programme (30 Credits) and registration and induction will begin in December 2020. 

Module 1: Management Organisational Behaviour 

ECTS Credits: 5

Organisational structure and design; organisation culture and change; management & leadership; organisational control and power; workgroups and teams in organisations

Module 2: Operations Management 

ECTS Credits: 5

Operations management; sales & operations planning; planning control and improvement; performance measurement; operational governance.

Module 3: Operational Excellence - Lean Sigma 

ECTS Credits: 10

Lean thinking; six sigma; project planning; process mapping; root cause analysis; creative solutions; corrective action preventative action; statistics; data visualisation; presentation skills; effective decision making.

Module 4: Regulatory Affairs and Validation

ECTS Credits: 10

Regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing; distribution and clinical trials; elements of typical GXP quality systems; clinical trials; pharmaceutical manufacturing; pharmaceutical distribution; marketing authorisation application; current trends in GMP. 

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for those who possess qualifications at QQI Level 6 or higher in Science, Engineering, Quality or a related discipline.

On successful completion of the course, students can apply for our QQI Level 7 Degree in Pharmaceutical Business Operations.
